Jörg's Home Page in its perennial summer lookI am working at the Institute of NeuroInformatics of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology and the University of Zurich, where I am designing parallel analog data processing systems, that are turned into silicon chips using VLSI technology. In particular, I have been working on visual processing chips with Rahul Sarpeshkar, Giacomo Indiveri, Shih-Chii Liu and Tobi Delbrück.
If you are interested in this type of work, please note that we currently have two open positions in this field.
For further details of my impact on science and the future of the world in general you can consult my Curriculum Vitae.
I studied physics at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology and worked towards my PhD degree at the Paul Scherrer Institute (now CSEM) in Zürich. In between I spent a year in the Applied Optics Group at the Imperial College of Science and Technology in London. After having finished my PhD I worked as a postdoc in the Koch lab at Caltech in Pasadena, California.
At Caltech I was working underground in the Beckman Institute for three years without being able to enjoy the magnificent view of the nearby San Gabriel Mountains that are mostly invisible anyway. For health reasons and being spoilt by the manifold cultural and subcultural blessings of London I chose to trade Pasadena for Hollywood as my new hometown, where I had a nice view of the mostly visible Hollywood Hills from my apartment and where I could actually walk to some of my favorite hangouts.
If for an extended period of time you can neither reach me at work nor at home, I am probably hiking somewhere or visiting faraway places or wasting away in Margaritaville.
